Hi, my father came home yesterday after havingthe large surgery where stomach is all reconstructed to make new oesophagus. (cancer and Barrets)He is 78 and now weighs 54 kilos. Today he ate a bit of lunch but drank straight after. Is this what made him then lose the lot 10 minutes later in the bathroom? He is very depressed and anxious and wants to talk to anyone who has gotten thru this. He was told yesterday also that they did not get it all, and it has /had broken thru the wall. They also took 20 lymph and gall bladder. We would really appreciate anyone's reply. Thanks!

Survivors and their stories

April's picture

Hi everyone. Today I found out that my dear friend's mother has liver cancer. I am a true believer in the power of positive thinking and desperately would like to send his mother a book or something that has been put together of the survivors out there and their success stories. I really want to to help this lady believe that she has a chance in fighting this disease. Does anyone know of any good books that I could take a look at? Many thanks April.

Years later, just hanging on...

I just saw my Professor of Radiotherapy and am now on 6 monthly visits. I have been 'free' of cancer for 4 1/2 years. I should be happy and enjoying life and yet I find that I am almost sabotaging my own efforts. I feel guilty for surviving when most in my self-help group have passed away, and I feel guilty for surviving when two friends who were diagnosed long after me have died, one only 28 leaving a 4 year old. My cancer, tongue and then neck cancer, have been linked to alcohol - so why do I tempt fate and have 3 glasses a night? Why do I refuse to 'take it easy' and look after myself?

Long lasting emotional issues...

Hi Everyone,

I'm a survivor of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I was diagnosed at the age of 23, had chemo and radiotherapy, and now I'm fine 5 years on!

Although I'm physically in good shape, I have recently started to realise that I bottled up a LOT of thoughts when I was sick. Now I feel I am putting pressure on myself to rush through life and achieve all these ridiculous goals in the shortest possible time. This is playing on my mind constantly... Can anyone else relate to this?

I'd love to hear from other people having similar feelings.

Hi, I am new to this website and am 4 months past a Whipple procedure. I am currently undergoing Chemotherapy (my fourth lot just started) with gemcitabine. I am looking to find others who have had the same treatment and might have clues or hints for me on how to navigate this track.

Hi everyone, I have picked up Lance Armstrong bio "it not about the bike" from library and looking forward to reading and being inspired.

I have also found another book which is really hitting the notes with me, "from this moment on" by arlene cotter. It is a little book with phrases and questions. If you are like me, I cant concentrate too long on one task at present.

National Cancer Survivors Day

SILLY's picture

On Sunday 5th June will be attending the inaugural Princess Alexandra Hospital National Cancer Survivors Day.This is in Brisbane Aand I was invited because that's where I had my IMRT.

I had not heard of this day before.

The purpose is to recognise and acknowledge the contributions of families, friends, healthcare providers and those involved in cancer research.

It is also to honour the strenghth and courage of people living with a history of cancer.

I will tell about it next week.Has anyone attended such an event in their area?
