mich_27I fought and beat this cancer once in 2009. My life had gotten back to 'normal' and even better than before I was diagonised. This year another tumour was found and although the doctors say my scans are clear, I'll still need chemo for an indefinite period, this is quite disheartening and it is taking some time for me to get my head around this.

I am 22 years old and my Mother was first diagnosed with lymphoma 2 and a half years ago. After receiving 2 years of treatments aimed at curing the disease, we were told near the start of this year that there was nothing more they could do. An experimental drug at first appeared hopeful, however recently cancer cells have been found in and around the lungs and all treatment has stopped.

etacarinaeI enjoy cooking, music and travelling...so my cancer better not come back because I have got a lot of stuff I want to do. I was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer in 2010 and have had surgery, a stoma, chemo, radio and a stoma reversal. I am bloody lucky because I had been seeing doctors for a few years with my symptoms before I found one who took me seriously and ordered the colonoscopy. I am here because I don't know anyone my age/sex that has had this experience and I would like to share my experience and hear about others.

survivorsays18 months since diagnosis. Feeling a little lost on this journey. Thought I'd be a lot further from here than I am. Mother of two teenagers who don't need any more 'cancer clutter' in their lives. Getting tired of feeling this way how do I expect my family to continue to support me when I don't feel like supporting myself.

I was lucky not having many harsh side effects. I just suffer very badly of swelling and numbness of my feet. the toes are so bad that they have gone black. sometimes i cannot walk from the kitchen to my bedroom. My oncologist said that it will go away but it is over a month and i am still suffering.Breast CancerI am a survivor- karen morris

mukiannaMy son was diagnosed with GBM last October, 2010. He had the tumour removed and was given radiotherapy, and then chemo for 6 months. Three weeks after the chemo finished, he had an MRI, and was told that the tumour had grown back, although only about a third the size of the original. Another operation, and now he is participating in clinical trials of the drug Avastin as well as another chemo drug, not sure of the name, at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
As his mother, it has been devastating for me to see my son suffer with such a rotten horrible disease, and I am helpless to do anything about it...I can't "kiss it better" as we mothers do when our children are little. I found that, when the second tumour was discovered, my son and his wife were almost hysterical and panicky and didnt know where to turn for advice etc. It was seeing them like this, with my daughter-in-law crying on my shoulder and my son looking at me with that look in his eyes that said "help me, Mum", that I decided there and then to get a support group in our city going, for brain cancer patients and their families and friends.
I was lucky enough to enlist the help of a lovely lady who had actually nursed brain tumour patients at the RM for a long time, and had the experience, the passion and the compassion to see what I wanted to do, and to be able to help me. Her contacts have been invaluable, and we are now at the point where we will be affiliated with the Cancer Council of Victoria and be part of their support group network in this state.
At the same time, my son's mother-in-law is organising a fund raiser to get the money to continue with the treatment once the trial is finished in eight weeks, so my son is a lucky young man to have three strong women on his side, and by his side, through such a painful journey.
The thing that helps us all the most is being able to do something useful and keeping a positive outlook, although that was almost impossible for me for the first few months as I was in tears for most of the time and unable to function at times, my grief and my fear and my anger were so great. I have since been prescribed antidepressants and this has helped me to be strong again and to get this support group off the ground.Brain tumourMy loved one or someone I know has cancer- bjl151MelanomaMy loved one or someone I know has cancer

Desy CaresIn 2006 at my 35th Birthday I announced to all my friends and family that on my 40th birthday I was going to shave my head for Cancer. Ironically in December 2009 I was myself diagnosed with the rare Cancer – Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma. A cancer that as you may know is rarely treated with Chemo, so I kept my hear.
However, since being diagnosed I have undergone eight separate operations which included having half my palate, a third of my top jaw, sinus, adenoids, nerves and lymph nodes removed. The surgeons did a fantastic job, rebuilding my palate using skin, muscle and tissue from my left arm and right hip and an artery taken from my left arm to feed blood up to my new palate.
I then underwent 32 treatments of radiation. In September 2010, I decided that I was going to continue with my pack to help raise money by shaving my head so for the last year we were fund raising.
In September 2011, my 10 year old son, my wonderful partner and I all shaved our heads having raised $70,000 for Cancer Council NSW. A great journey, which I believed help me cope with my own diagnosis, however have to say I am glad it is all behink me now.
Now, I am just happy to discover the new Desiree and decided who, this new person is and how I can ensure I make a difference in this world, which is the reason I got this cancer in the reason.
I would be please to answer any questions any of you may have who are still going through this journey with me at the time.
Kind Regards
