We hope this group provides a place specific for this age where its members can deal exclusively with the varied and unique issues that young adults affected by cancer face. If this sounds like the right group for you then read on....
Is this group for you?:
This group is intended for any young adult who is or has been affected by cancer in the age vicinity of 18-45 years.
This group is for you if... you have cancer, have had cancer,
are a young carer or care for a young adult with cancer or treat young adults with cancer.
or even if you are...a friend, a partner, a sibling, a parent or offspring of a young adult affected by cancer, please join.
I'm very happy to say that the first fortnightly meeting for young adults who have been or are on a journey with cancer (YA CAN) will be held on Monday the 5th of September from 6.30pm at 40 Rocklands rd North Sydney (the Poche Centre).
My intent with this group is to create a safe space where you can talk about what ever is important to you and allow you to connect with others who have been or are going through a similar circumstance.
You are invited to a Cancer Connections live web chat event for people affected by cancer
Join our guests Associate Professor Frances Quirk (health psychologist and sexologist with specific expertise in young adults) and Dr Amanda Hordern (expert and published author on sexuality and intimacy in cancer), to discuss:
* How a cancer diagnosis and treatment may affect sexuality and intimacy
* How to communicate with others about sexuality and intimacy
* Relationships and sexual confidence
* Tips and practical strategies
There will be a forum focussing on employment issues for adolescent & young adults affected by cancer in Melbourne on February 23, 2011.
The forum is being run by onTrac@PeterMac in partnership with WISE Employment (specialists in employment services for people with a health condition). Discussions will include support services and strategies for young people seeking employment, entering the workforce or keen to learn more about apprenticeships and traineeships.
A blog is a shared on-line journal where people can post diary entries about their personal experiences. You can post a new blog entry using your "My stuff" box on the right side of this page. The list of latest blog entries can be found here. For general discussions please use our forums.
