Tribute to Dad

Its been 15yrs 30/07/1996 at 8.10am since my Dad, Dennis passed from kidney failure and leukaemia. Im sitting here watching Masterchef who taught me, STRESSED is DESSERTS in reverse.
Dad kept the upper stiff lip and never let anyone close and went to all appts alone. This was to protect his family and because he was not coping. Me, well I have discovered Im very much like my Dad, however Im trying to embrace change everyday and choosing the opposite of what I want.
My best advice I have learnt in the last 3 mths, if it scares the hell out of you, you must conquered it.
It disintegrates STRESS.
So this is to say I love you Dad and thank you for being you. You help mould me to who I am today. Because of you I travel the road of cancer more humble, educated and with insight of acceptance.
I love you

Re: Tribute to Dad
What a beautiful tribute to have a special place in the garden Bev, I have a little plastic sunflower in my
"dreams" pot. I grew up at the beach, Yeppoon and Dad's favourite flower was the sunflower. The sunflower follows the rays of the sun from dawn to sunset.
He was 54 when he passed and this was the first anniversary since diagnosis and surgery in April 11. It hit me hard and I was blue and teary and mentioned to my hubby about how I'm at peace with it all. He hit the nail on the head by saying, you have survivor guilt because you survived your cancer but Dad didn't! Ahhh wisdom.
It amazing how technology and science have come so far that they can detect heredity genes of cancer.......It is a gift to have such knowledge and powerful tool for life.

Re: Tribute to Dad
I really miss my Dad too. Dad had bowel cancer and passed away 2 weeks before his 70th birthday in 1992. For my own cancer 4 years ago, when they tested my tumour they found some mutations and told me that it looked like that I inherited the "cancer gene". They call it Lynch Syndrome or HNPCC. Well, apart from my dad, my grandfather also had bowel cancer. Being 3rd generation cancer now, I have annual check ups in the form of a colonscopy. Apart from the cancer, it seems that I have inherited a few things from my dad. Chatterbox, blue eyes and a few more,oh he has a lot to answer to when I finally meet up with him again. As a tribute to my lovely dad, I have a special part in our garden that I have dedicated to him. At this time of the year I have daffodils flowering, it always cheers me up.
Re: Tribute to Dad
It was in 1973 and I was 22 years old . There were times in my life I wished he was there to help and times when he could have enjoyed his children and grandchildren .
Re: Tribute to Dad
Hi silly, geez you would have been very young and that is tragic and unexpected. Thank you, you have made me realise i was able to say goodbye to my dad. I wish i had known him as a man not just a dad.
Re: Tribute to Dad
My dad was killed on a pedestrian crossing 38 years ago .The driver was very drunk and speeding as he drove through a red light. I miss him at times so I know you must miss your dad.
