Should I learn to ride a motorcycle? Or will people think I'm in mid-life crisis?

joyhoney's picture

Having had cancer, I feel like I shoud take advantage of doing everything I want. I've self-published a book. I've been on the radio. I've forced myself to do a lot of things that I probably wouldn't have done if I hadn't had leukaemia. So,do you think I'm idiotic, stupid, nearing mid-life crisis, if I should want to learn to ride a motorbike at 36years old?

What if I learn to ride and fall off and smash my teeth out? End up a paraplegic? I know, Iam such a nut. What does everyone think? Should I do it?

Hey Joy Honey, Do it!
I was a motorcycle instructor in the late eighties and early nineties and taught more than a thousand riders in the compulsory Learners courses (and beyond) in Canberra and Sydney for a company aptly named Stay Upright. I found it very rewarding and had a ball! It was great to see such a diverse bunch of people learn to ride a bike in about nine hours. Everyone enjoyed it! The oldest person I taught was well into retirement age so don't think you are too old. If you get taught a good riding system it really points you in the right direction for riding on the road. The only thing I would say is that you need to be able to ride a pedal bike and balance before you ride a motor cycle.
cheers John

well, from your comments it seems like I should do it. Is a pink jacket with tassels ok? By the way, does anyone know how to get the pictures uploaded, it just won't work for me.

Don't worry-I figured it out, but I look slightly deformed.

Hi Joyhoney

Echo Jules2's thought - 36 is nowhere near mid life, so you can't have a mid life crisis. One proviso - instead of a daffodil a picture of you in jacket with tassles on the bike as ypur avatar!

Cheers

Hi Joyhoney,

I joke with my son, saying that when I’m 80 don’t expect to find me in a nursing home…I will be on a Harley Davidson travelling round Australia…growing old disgracefully.

I guess I better learn how to ride a bike first!

And it will have to be a miniature Harley…I’m only little Smile

Isn’t life about the experience?

Reindeer

P.S. Just make sure you have the right safety gear.

Go the bike! It will be such a hoot. But I dare you to get one of those jackets with the tassles to complete the look Smile
