A Series of Events becomes a Celebration.

Last evening a series of spontaneous happenings led to a wonderful yet unplanned celebration of our Wedding Anniversary.

My husband and I used to dance before I was diagnosed with cancer. Last week my husband bumped into an old friend from dance class resulting in an invite to go dancing.

We thought… why not… lets go dancing on our anniversary. It turned out the dancing happened to be at the same venue that we first met.

On Friday I received an email from another friend, I mentioned about going dancing and asked if they would like to join us. We decided to go out for dinner beforehand at a little Thai restaurant. We didn’t mention that it was our anniversary to our friends.

During our meal, the restaurant was playing background music. Suddenly, I stopped and listened, the music was very familiar to me, it was “Canon in G” . The beautiful music I had walked down the aisle to. Coincidence or not? …. never before had I heard this type of music being played in a Thai restaurant.

I looked to my husband and said “Remember this music”, he listened and said “ I remember it well from 4yrs ago”. Our friends looked a little puzzled, one smiled and said “It’s your wedding anniversary”. We raised our glasses of delicious “Mock Cocktails” and toasted to our anniversary and reminisced about the day, a day they had also shared with us. Our friends then insisted that the meal was on them, we protested but they wouldn’t have a bar of it.

We then went dancing and met up with friends we hadn’t seen for years.

We rediscovered the sheer joy of dancing. I laughed and giggled as we tried to remember how to dance. Through my giggles I saw my husband smiling and saying…. “Your not supposed to lead”… I responded …”Well, how else will I know what to do next…...I’ve forgotten the leads I’m supposed to follow”.

It was a wonderful night, we thoroughly enjoyed, however today I am feeling twinges in muscles that I didn’t know existed before Smile

Thanks for all of your comments.

The day, held laughter I wasn’t expecting, one of the things I missed the most during the cancer experience was losing my sense of humour. It felt so good to laugh and giggle from deep within and just feeling a semblance of my old self.

Enjoy your weekend everyone.

Wonderful story Reindeer- good to hear that you had such a lovely time. What a fantastic memory for you and your husband. Smiling and laughing with friends is so therapeutic and the aches and pains that come with healthy exercise are worth it.
Kind regards, Willow xo

Hi Reindeer, Isnt it great to have these wonderful days that create such beautiful memories. After being together for 11 years we got married last Saturday at home with 80 family and friends present. We had an absolutely wonderful time and these memories we can call on on the days that are not so good.
Enjoy the love

Yes, Gail it is wonderful to experience such great days.

Congratulations on your wedding day last Saturday. The day will always hold “moments of time” to treasure for years to come.

I read you story about proposing and organising your wedding within a week. Very well done, you deserve a huge pat on the back Smile

I understand your words about changing the focus from cancer. Our wedding occurred between Chemo treatments - also, gave me something else to focus on. All the arrangements seemed to fall into place easily. What a wonderful day it was!

By the way, I love your Unicorn Avatar. I have adored horses since I was a little girl.

Take care,

How wonderful Reindeer! Also, as many of us have noted here about the friends who stick by us through this cancer experience.
I think it is great that there are different muscle twinges. So much better than chemo or radiation twinges!
So glad you had a great night. My 30th Anniversary is in a couple of weeks. I hope we have as much fun as you had.

Congrats.

Re: A Series of Events becomes a Celebration.

Hello Samex,

Congratulations on being married for 30 years, that’s a wonderful achievement for both of you.

Have you got plans for a party or just something for the two of you, either way I’m sure you will enjoy yourself.

The muscles are a little tighter today but not to worry, it was worth it Smile
